Devonport City Councillor and entrepreneur Sally Milbourne will contest the seat of Braddon for the Nationals in the upcoming federal election.
Sally Milbourne is the latest member in the strong team of candidates the Nationals are putting forward in Tasmania.
Her background in education and small business will make a valuable contribution in the National party room in Canberra.
Sally is a councillor, a former teacher, a small business owner and a mum of two great kids who is passionate about the future of regional Tasmania.
Ms Milbourne said that with her education background, business in media production and as a restaurateur with husband Ben, she has a passion to support local producers and agriculture, small to medium business owners and a drive to improve education outcomes for Braddon.
“Braddon has it all; it’s ruggedly beautiful making it an attractive tourist destination, there’s a strong mining and manufacturing community, excellent educational facilities, fertile farmland for agriculture and burgeoning food entrepreneurialism; with the right support Braddon is situated perfectly to lead the rest of the country in innovation across a number of industries,” Ms Milbourne said.
“My priorities are improving educational outcomes in regional Tasmania, supporting small business, helping with agriculture innovation and bio security and ensuring the region continues to take positive steps towards environmental sustainability and climate change.”
Sally grew up on Tasmanian’s north west hinterland riding horses and loving the outdoors. Being involved in sport it was a natural progression to study Human Movement at University before specialising in middle school teaching. After 11 years teaching in northern Tasmania and lecturing educational pedagogy at the University of Tasmania, she returned to her hometown of Burnie to take up a teaching post in 2011. It was here where she met her husband Ben with whom she now runs the CharlotteJack restaurant (named after their children) in Devonport.
She was elected to Devonport City Council in 2018.
