Ian Blayney has a record for standing up for what is right and he will be a champion for the people of Durack and WA by ensuring their voices are heard.
As the former Member for Geraldton he lived and breathed the issues felt by people across the length and breadth of Durack, a vast seat that can feel a long way from Canberra.
He sees better mobile communications, further sustainable development of agriculture in the north of WA, increased defence presence and improving access to affordable childcare as key issues for the seat which stretches from Kununurra to York.
Ian was born and raised in the Midwest and farmed grain and sheep for 25 years at Eradu. He has held the role of Grains Councillor for the WA Farmers Federation, as well as being a member of the Western Panel of Grains Research and Development Corporation and the Advisory Committee for the Geraldton Midwest Development Authority.
As the Member for Geraldton for twelve years he helped finish Indian Ocean Drive and the Southern Transport Corridor, the new Greenough bridge, Wonthella’s 500 lux lights, deregulation of Geraldton Airport, new fire stations, the expansion of Geraldton University Centre and the establishment of Wandina Primary School.
He is married to Barb and they have 3 adult children.
