The LNP commits $1.9 million to Magpies Sporting Club Mackay

The Magpies Sporting Club Mackay will receive a major expansion and upgrade under a future Coalition Government, with more changerooms, plus extra sport and catering areas.

Leader of The Nationals David Littleproud made the announcement with Dawson MP Andrew Willcox and club representatives, describing the funding pledge as quite literally a “game changer”.

“Magpies Sporting Club Mackay will be given an overhaul and transformed into a sports environment that local players and families deserve,” Mr Littleproud said.

“We know the Magpies Club is already extremely popular and the LNP supports growing and enhancing this fantastic sports venue.”

Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox said he has been working with the club to advocate for ambitious expansion plans, to help them grow well into the future.

“The LNP’s $1.9 million commitment will include four separated female and male changerooms, a referee room, a first aid room, additional secure lockers, showers and restrooms to accommodate the growing number of AFL and cricket players,” Mr Willcox said.

“The club will upgrade the kitchen and canteen, which will be used to support match day operations and community events.”

Magpies Sporting Club Mackay Director Jason Egan described the commitment as “the biggest funding announcement for our club since inception”.

“Female AFL and cricket players will benefit from new changerooms, which is exciting,” Mr Egan said.

“I would like to thank the Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox and the LNP for supporting our club.”

“Under a future Coalition Government, we understand how important it is to assist regional sporting clubs’ growth wherever we can,” Mr Willcox said.

The club also proudly supports nine affiliated sporting clubs, fostering community engagement and promoting active and healthy lifestyles.
