- Federal President, The Nationals
Larry Anthony has a long service record with the Federal National Party. He strongly believes in the independence of the Party and the critical role it plays in the Australian political landscape at both a State and Federal level. He has held numerous positions at both the Parliamentary and the organisational level. Larry maintains his unwavering support for the Nationals. He believes giving back is equally as important as receiving.
Larry was the Nationals MHR for the seat of Richmond in NSW from 1996 to 2004. He held numerous Ministerial portfolios in the Howard Coalition Government, predominately in the sensitive social security portfolio. Many of the reforms he initiated in the areas of the Family Law Act and the early intervention and prevention policies for children still exist today.
From 2006 to 2012 he served on the organisational wing as the Senior Vice President of the Federal National Party and as the Inaugural Chairman of the National Policy Forum (NPF). In 2015 Larry took on the role as Federal President of the Nationals.
Since leaving parliament, Larry returned to the commercial sector either as Chair or Director of numerous public, private, GOCs and charities. He is currently Chairman of uniDap Solutions, a cloud based IT company, as well as the founding Director of the SAS Group, a corporate advisory and communications firm. In the past Larry has also held directorships in rail, media, dams and credit union sectors.
In the voluntary space, Larry served for 6 years as Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, which has overseen a rapid growth in youth participation from 24,000 to a record 36,000 youth participants across the Commonwealth. He is currently Chairman of the Friends of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
On the education front, Larry holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UNSW and is a Fellow of the both the AICD and FINSA. Before his parliamentary career he worked in the financial markets, and in the agricultural sector covering livestock, cereal and cotton production.
Larry maintains close links to the family property near Murwillumbah. Whilst his state of origin is Northern NSW, he resides in Brisbane with his wife Jenny and their three children.
Larry strongly believes in the role the Nationals play in being the champion for regional and rural Australia, and the importance of the state divisions working together to punch above their weight as we enter a critical election year.
